At our South Surrey/White Rock general dentist’s office, we are committed to keeping your mouth clean and your smile looking great all through life. In fact, this platform is part of our community education initiative aimed at boosting the oral health of patients and non-patients alike. As such, we have some tips for keeping your oral health on-track. Keep reading, and then be sure to follow up with any questions, concerns, or comments. And by all means let us know if you are ready to schedule your next six month preventive dentistry appointment. No matter what is going on in your mouth, it can’t be improved upon until you resolve to take action!
Drink As Much Water As You Can
Hydration is key when it comes to oral health. It can also help keep your breath from turning foul by allowing you to produce enough saliva to fight off the bad-breath-causing bacteria.
Pass On The Sugar Snacks
We know, it’s hard to avoid sipping on cold beverages or enjoying a warm dessert, but these things won’t be much good for your smile in the long run because all that added sugar will only feed the bacteria that causes cavities.
Brush The Right Way
Get a new toothbrush and then go at it for 2 minutes or more, at least twice each day. This will keep help keep cavities and gum disease at bay, and it will leave your mouth feeling fresh. Don’t do it right after you eat, however, because with all the acid on the loose in your mouth, you could really damage your enamel.
Floss Like You Mean It
We can not overstate the importance of this one. So, find the dental floss and use it every day! To go after the plaque and tartar that remains between your teeth and in other hard to see areas, dental floss is the one thing you’ll need to get the job done.
Rinse With Mouthwash
Why not go for added protection? There are some great fluoride mouthwashes available that can deliver extra oral health benefits. Just be sure to read the labels for age appropriateness.
Put White Rock Dental Group On Your Calendar
It is always in your best interest to find a dentist you can trust, and visit their office often. Our professional teeth cleanings can take care of any bacteria, tartar, or plaque that remains after your best efforts at home. Plus, our preventive dentistry exams will make it easy to detect and treat any emerging causes for concern. Cavities, gum disease, and cancer, can all be painful and costly to treat when they are caught late.
With us, your appointment will be custom-fitted to your current needs, like if you are coming in because you are pretty sure you have gingivitis, for example. That said, most appointments do follow the same basic format. Once you’ve checked yourself in at the desk, we’ll have you complete any missing paperwork. After that you’ll be escorted back to an operatory, where one of our dental hygienists will handle your teeth cleaning and digital X-rays. After that, Dr. Rogers will conduct a thorough dental exam and explain all of the results. Together, you will create a plan to address any problems, and you can go ahead and book your next appointment if you are ready to do so.
