While we hope you have plenty of reasons to smile this summer, we don’t want you to have so much fun that you forget about your ongoing oral health needs! To help keep such things in perspective, the preventive dentistry team at our White Rock, BC office has put together some tips for keeping your mouth clean and your smile looking great all summer long. So, read on, and then be sure to follow up with our team to schedule your next appointment with Dr. Rogers!
Stay Away From Sugar-Filled Snacks
Look, we aren’t trying to take away all your seasonal fun. A cold soft drink or sugary snack (especially a tasty treat from Crazy Cows) can be appealing in the summer, especially when you are hanging out by the water, or out on the road. But such choices won’t be good for you in the long run because all that sugar will feed the bacteria that causes tooth decay, gum disease, and worse.
Get Plenty Of Water
Obviously, drinking water is a great idea in general. But not everyone realizes that it can help keep your breath fresh by allowing you to produce enough saliva to eradicate the bad-breath-causing bacteria. Any water with fluoride is even better!
Keep Brushing
Even though your work and school routine may have relaxed a bit, you should still be brushing your teeth for 2 minutes or more, at least twice each day. This will keep cavities and gum disease at bay, and it will leave your mouth feeling refreshed. Don’t get lax with this one!
Don’t Forget To Floss
To eradicate the plaque and tartar that remains between your teeth and in other hard to see areas, even after brushing, dental floss is what you’ll need. Plan to do it once each day.
Try A Fluoride Rinse
There are some good fluoride mouthwashes out there that can bring added oral health benefits. Just make sure you check the labels for age-appropriateness!
