Frequently Asked Questions

At our dental office in White Rock/South Surrey, BC, we often hear the same questions. Part of our job is to help you learn about dentistry so you can make the best decisions for your family’s dental care. Here are some of the most frequent questions and answers for all of them.

  • Q: How Old Should Children Be For Their First Dental Visit?

    A:

This can vary depending on your children’s maturity (physically and emotionally). As a rule, you should bring your children to our White Rock/South Surrey dental office at age 2. This way, Dr. Rogers can make sure your children’s teeth are coming in correctly. He can also make sure there are no problems like cavities.

  • Q: Why Did My Store-Bought Teeth Whitening System Do A Poor Job?

    A:

The whitening agent in these products is regulated. In order to be sold off the shelf, that whitening agent needs to be diluted. Store-bought teeth whitening systems will work, but they often do not work well. They’ll need to be done over and over to get the same results as our professional-strength take-home whitening trays.

  • Q: What’s The Best Way To Prevent Cavities And Gum Disease?

    A:

The key to prevention is dental hygiene. You need to brush and floss regularly. Twice-yearly visits to our White Rock/South Surrey dental office are also required. That’s because only a dentist can get your teeth truly clean. Dr. Rogers can also spot early signs of cavities and gum disease so treating them will be easier.

  • Q: Do Root Canal Treatments Hurt?

    A:

One persistent myth is that root canal treatments are painful. These restorative dentistry treatments are done when bacteria infect the pulp inside a tooth. If you ignore this infection long enough, you will likely have a severe toothache that eventually kills your tooth. Thanks to Dr. Rogers’ expertise and some local anaesthetic, most patients experience very little discomfort during a root canal treatment.

  • Q: What Is The Best Toothbrush To Buy?

    A:

The brand doesn’t matter so much as the head size and bristles. You need to reach all the areas in your mouth with a toothbrush. Pick one with a smaller head, as this will make it easier to brush all areas in your mouth. You also want to go with soft bristles. These are strong enough to clean your teeth. Hard bristles sound better, but they can actually damage your enamel.

Have a question not answered above? Call us today at 604-536-7606 ext 1  or use our convenient online form. New patients can always receive a free initial consultation. The free consultation is your chance to meet with Dr. Rogers and his team for a brief visual dental exam and evaluation. This initial visit will not include X-rays, diagnostic tests, or a dental cleaning, but we can take care of those things at your next appointment.

  • Q: Are there any alternative orthodontic treatments available in White Rock/South Surrey, BC?

    A:

Yes! Here at the White Rock Dental Group, general dentist Dr. Rogers offers a metal-free adult orthodontic treatment program known as Invisalign. Rather than relying on metal brackets and wires, Invisalign utilizes a series of clear, nearly invisible plastic aligners that are designed to address minor orthodontic issues involving crooked, crowded, or gapped teeth. Whether you are interested in Invisalign for your teenager or for yourself, you can contact us today to schedule an orthodontic consultation with Dr. Rogers!
